Conversations and the Playground

Test answers before visitors see them, then read real conversations to learn what customers ask, where answers fall short and what to add to your knowledge.

Test in the Playground

#

The Playground is a private test chat with the bot's current settings. Test chats are not counted in your plan's usage, though they still use your AI key.

  • Try another model tier for one chat with the model picker, and press Reset to start over.
  • Write tools show Confirm and Decline, just like the widget.
  • Test as a signed-in user: switch it on and enter a user id (and optionally a name, email and host context JSON). The chat then runs exactly as for a visitor with a verified identity token, so you can test tools marked Signed-in users only, identity-based routing and host context. The header shows who you are testing as; Reset clears the chat but keeps these settings.
  • Open the debug panel under an answer to see how it was made: the search query, how strong the match was, what the visitor wanted, the reply language, the chunks retrieved with their scores, tool calls and timings.
  • Images from your knowledge appear inside the answer exactly as visitors see them: after the sentence they illustrate, with the caption and the source (or its citation number). Click one to open it full size. Ask something like “show me the red hatchback” to check your photos are found.

Tip: If an answer is wrong, check the retrieved chunks first. If the right text is not there, fix the knowledge; if it is there but the answer ignores it, adjust the instructions.

Search messages finds conversations by any word in them. Each row shows the title, badges for unanswered and test chats, the visitor, the number of messages and the feedback received.

Read a conversation

#
  • The transcript shows who wrote each message: the visitor, the assistant or an agent. Voice calls appear as one line.
  • Under each answer: the sources it cited, any feedback with its reason and comment, the chunks retrieved with their scores, and tool calls with arguments and results.
  • Images the assistant showed appear inline where the visitor saw them; click to open full size. An image you have since hidden or deleted is left out.
  • The visitor card shows the visitor id, identity if signed in, browser, start time, status and context your site sent.
  • Add to eval set turns an answer into a test case (owners and admins).

Unanswered questions

#

The Unanswered card on the bot's Overview counts conversations where the assistant could not answer from your knowledge. Greetings do not count. Open Conversations with Answer set to Unanswered to read them: each one is usually a missing FAQ entry or page.

Visitor data requests

#
  • Export visitor data, on the visitor card, downloads everything held about that visitor, for access requests.
  • Erase deletes the visitor and all their conversations, messages, feedback and memories permanently; usage totals stay without personal data.
  • Conversations are deleted automatically after the retention period set in workspace Settings (default 365 days; you can shorten it). Chats waiting for or handled by a person are kept until they close.

Worked examples

Online shop

A weekly review of unhappy customers

Find and fix the answers that disappoint shoppers.

Every Monday, filter Feedback: Thumbs down. For each, read the retrieved chunks. Most fixes are a new FAQ entry, such as the exact COD charge. If an answer showed the wrong product photo, open the source's Images tab and hide it or correct its description.

Clinic or bookings

Testing before a new doctor joins

Make sure the assistant knows the new timetable before patients ask.

After uploading the new timetable, ask in the Playground "When is Dr Baruah available on Saturday?" and check the debug panel shows the new file among the retrieved chunks.

Software company

Handling a deletion request

Respond to a customer who asks for their chat data to be deleted.

Filter Visitor: Identified, search their email, open the conversation and use Export visitor data first if they asked for a copy, then Erase.

Coaching institute

Finding new questions during admissions

Spot the questions parents ask most in admission season.

Filter Answer: Unanswered for the last two weeks, group what you see (hostel, transport, refund of fees) and add an FAQ entry for each.
